Shuttles By Request in the Chuckanuts!

Yes, we’re shuttling in the Chucks for 2024!

How to Ride

Our standard Shuttle by Request is 2.5 hours of shuttle time (riding time goes longer) which is enough to do 3 runs. Each run is about 1700 feet. More trips up are a possibility too, if you like. There are 3 possible ways to book: The first is Private Shuttle By Request ($370 total for entire van), the second is a Non-Private Shuttle By Request (starting at $250 for 4 riders with a possible credit back) and the last option would be as a Jump-On ($45 for each rider). All three options give you 3 trips to the top, If you book a Private or Non-Private Shuttle, you get to choose the date and time (so long as it works for our schedule), but as a Jump-On, you would need to sign up a shuttle time that is available. To book a Shuttle By Request, use the contact tab above to set it up. If you want to ride as a Jump-On, scroll down to Available Shuttles for Jump-Ons.

About the Trails…

Ah, the Chuckanuts. Chuckanut Mountain has a number of things going for it that sets it apart from the other mountains in town. First of all, varied and its fun. Like really fun! The mountain has effectively 2 routes down, the first is Double Black Diamond/Double Down. DB/DD is what a friend of mine calls "technical flow” because it’s chunky and rough in places, and fast in others. It has berms to keep your speed up and roots and rocks to keep it interesting. It also has lots of standout trail features sprinkled down the trail including rock drops, roller doubles, ledges and a bit of exposure in places. But above all, it’s fast. Or at least it’s as fast as you want it to be. With minimal places where pedaling is necessary (fewer than 10 strokes are required if you’re comfortable letting the wheels turn) you’ll get maximum return on effort. Most riders that are familiar with the trail get down to the bottom in 15 to 20 minutes. Less experienced riders in 25. Extremely fast riders get it done in around 10, but that’s seriously fast.

The second route down the mountain is The Ridge, Salal (or Hush Hush) and Hemlock. Whereas Double Black/Double Down is gravity driven with very little pedaling, Ridge/Salal/Hemlock is predominantly down, but does have 2 fairly short climbs in an otherwise downhill run. With the same start point (at the top of the mountain) as DB/DD, it finishes further north on Chuckanut Drive. The trails on the Ridge route range from what we call chunky/slaby at the top to either mostly buff singletrack (Salsal) or roots on roots on roots (Hush Hush). Finally, at the end you finish on rolling, fast double track. We call this route the adventure ride, because it does have some climbing (like I said, it’s predominantly down though) and instead of being down at the bottom in 15 to 50 minutes, your down at the bottom in an hour and a half. It’s more chunky, more rooty in spots (mostly at the top), and is slower droppier kind of tech. Super fun, but an altogether different groove. NOTE: You will need to trail info to navigate around 1 section of the Ridge that has climbs that are not fun on a bike. This is easy to go around, if you’re aware of the turn. Our shuttle driver is happy to give to the insider info so you can easily avoid this. Don’t let Trailforks fool you. With the right guidance, this trail’s a peach!

Cost for a Shuttle By Request

Non-Private (other riders can join)

$250 (base price)

You pick the time and we can add additional riders. Cost for 3 runs (2.5 hours) for up to four riders is $250. Additional riders are $20 each for up to 10. Note: With a non-private shuttle, other riders will be able to join either leading up to the shuttle or the day of. For each additional person that we add to your shuttle, we’ll credit you $20 back up to a max of $120. For example: You have 4 people that want to ride, so you pay $250 to reserve at the time/date that you choose. We add 6 people to your shuttle, so your credit back would be $120 and the total cost of the shuttle was $130. Use the contact tab above to get in touch with us and book it.

Private

$370 (flat fee)

You pick the time and it’s just you and your friends. Cost for 3 runs (2.5 hours) for 10 riders is $370. Use the contact tab above to get in touch with us and book it.

Don’t have enough people to justify a Shuttle By Request, but you have a flexible schedule? No worries. We can put you on someone else’s Simi-Private shuttle. From time to time we’ll post up shuttles that are available for Jump-Ons here. If there’s nothing just below here use the contact tab above to get in touch with us and get put on our contact list.

Intrinsic Flow volunteers on Chuckanut admiring their work.

Five very large downed trees on Double Down rendered the trail impassible for a month. (Before photo).

Four sessions digging and cutting on the trees and then building trail up and over not only made the trail rideable , but also more novel and fun than it was previously. Success!

Want to make a donation to the trails at Chuckanut or the shuttle?

We’re not just a shuttle, coaching and guiding company, we’re also builders! For the last 5 years, maintenance and improvements on Double Black Diamond and Double Down have been done almost entirely by Intrinsic Flow and volunteers associated with us. We average around 200 hours of work each year. Most of that has been done by me personally, but as time goes on more people are helping by donating their time and effort to doing it with us. If you like the work that’s been done there, consider making a donation to help support it. Expect your money to be spent on tools, shuttles and other perks for Intrinsic Flow volunteers.

Thanks so much for your support!
